Sharat Varma is the head for pediatrics gastroenterology, hepatology and liver transplantation at the Centre for Liver and Biliary Sciences (CLBS), Max hospitals in Delhi.
He has experience of more than 1000 liver transplants and has treated children with complex GI, pancreas and liver diseases for more than one decade while working in Europe, USA and India.

Dr Sharat has worked and trained at the best centres in Europe, USA, India and did his PhD on liver diseases in children.
Given his special interest in genetic liver diseases, he has established the first “Genetic liver clinic” in the country.
He is an internationally recognised expert in Wilson disease, PFIC, Alagille syndrome, cholesterol disorders, mitochondrial diseases and metabolic diseases affecting the liver.
He is a key member of various global consortiums working on research of pediatric liver diseases.
Liver stem cell clinical trials and development have been an integral part of his training and research projects.
Dr Sharat Varma performed the first FMT (Fecal microbiota transplantation) in India and the third in the world for refractory D-lactic acidosis in a child with short gut syndrome.
Diagnosis and treatment of children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD, Ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease), food allergies, Celiac disease and other complex gastrointestinal diseases is his expertise.
